Acrylic paint on canvas

84cm x 60cm

This work was inspired by a figure study by Iila Mashkof 1909.

Becoming Still explores the quiet transformation of presence through layered abstraction and expressive colour.  The seated figure emerges and recedes within bold strokes of green, red, and yellow – embodying a moment of introspection suspended in motion. The pose is soft yet strong, suggesting both vulnerability and being grounded. Textural contrasts and energetic marks evoke a sense of shifting identity, as if the figure is simultaneously forming and dissolving. The interplay between body and background blurs the boundaries of self and space, inviting viewers to contemplate the stillness that can arise from inner flux. This work is less about representation and more about feeling-about the tension between stillness and change, between what is seen and what is sensed.
